MIDLAND -- It was a rainy Friday night in Odessa but that didn't slow down Midland High's three headed running back tandem of Lance White, Xzavier Martinez and Eric Pena.
"We kind of had a gameplan to come out and run anyways," said White, "but we didn't complete one pass and had to run the ball. So that's what we did."
"It doesn't matter what kind of weather," said Martinez. "We have a job to do and we have to execute it no matter what condition."
"It was wet, rainy," said Pena. "You had to keep two hands on the ball, that's what I did. Just getting yards. Didn't matter if I got a touchdown or not."
But get a touchdown he did. Eric pena bulldozed his was through the permian defense for the first score of the game.
"It felt really good," he said. "Got the team pumped and that just set the tone the whole game."
"Monday i was joking with him," said Head Coach Craig Yenzer, "I said, 'Man, I gave you way too many carries. Now you're going to expect that every week.' But it was fun to see him have success."
The team rushed for 249 yards against a stout Panther defense. Yenzer says he loves using more than one back and these guys love that.
"I get a break," said White. "I'm fresh the whole game. A lot of people getting the ball in their hands gives you a chance to do something.
