What is 2013's Word of the Year?

The folks at Merriam-Webster have chosen their 2013 English word of the year: "Science"!

That's because "Science" had the biggest spike of the year in online searches -- up 176 percent! The dictionary publisher says there were a lot of discussions this year surrounding science, including education policy and climate change. The number-two word is related: "Cognitive." Merriam-Webster's rivals went with a viral trend.

The Oxford American English Dictionary chose "Selfie" as its word of the year. If you're not aware -- a "Selfie" is a self-portrait photo, usually taken with a mobile phone.
