MIDLAND -- On Thursday the city of Midland broke ground on the first downtown apartment complex in over 50 years.
The Midland lofts are expected to be complete in 14 months.
This is all part of the city's efforts to revitalise the downtown area.
Midland city council member John James says this is a project he has seen develop from the beginning.
"It actully started as the Brownstones and affordable housing project on the south side or the east side of downtown, and when we weren't successful there with the state, we started looking at other creative ways we create additional housing and thus the wall street lofts were born," James said.
There will be about 103 units in the four story loft building, with about 5,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor.
