PERMIAN BASIN -- A national organization dedicated to making sure people are prepared in case of disaster is forming a new chapter here in west Texas.
The Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster or VOAD for short has a new Permian Basin chapter.
The board met today at the Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission conference room.
The group explains disasters affect the whole community and the best recovery plans include the entire community.
Hank Henry, Chairman of the VOAD Permian Basin says "Our primary purpose is going to be sort of a communications center to be able to direct people that may have volunteer skills that could be used by any of these organizations should a disaster occur."
VOAD says the most frequent causes of major disasters in texas are flooding tornadoes and hurricanes.
the lone star state ranks number one in the nation for frequency in tornadoes and flash flooding.
