Two Major Water Main Breaks In Big Spring Shut Down Schools, Roads

Several people in Big Spring were without water today after two major water main breaks.
BIG SPRING -- Several people in Big Spring were without water today after two major water main breaks.

The two breaks were in the 800 block of Baylor and at the intersection of 10th and Owens.

Big Spring High School was shut down, as well as Moss Elementary near Baylor Street after water to the schools had to be shut off for repairs.

Howard College also closed several of its buildings as crews worked to clean up the water.

Johnny Womack, of Big Spring Public Works says this kind of incident is rare.

"It's been about 6 months since we've had a major leak like this, this is a rare coincidence where we've had two leaks on the same day on major lines."

Womack says they won't know what caused these breaks until the lines have been dug up and inspected.

He says that they are expected to be repaired by tomorrow morning, in time for school to start.
