TEXAS -- US Senator Ted Cruz of Texas was one of the runners up for Time's 2013 person of the year.
The magazine ranked Cruz fifth on its list.
The Junior US Senator made himself a household name earlier this year when he gave a lengthy speech on the Senate floor about Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act.
Cruz promised to keep speaking until he was "no longer able to stand."
Cruz is believed to be a major force behind the 15 day US Government shutdown in October.
Time selected Pope Francis as the person of 2013.
