ODESSA -- Odessa Police now have a top 5 most wanted list of sorts for minor crimes such as traffic tickets.
This program was put in place to bring in people with outstanding warrants for minor violations so they wouldn't have to be arrested. Odessa Police Communications Officer Steve LeSueur says they've already had a lot of success with it.
"It's local warrants, which are Class C Misdemeanors, through the municipal court," LeSueur said.
But the list is reserved mostly for people with a history of dodging tickets.
"It's people that have multiple outstanding warrants," LeSueur said.
He says it's for people like 44 year old Rigoberto Tanguma, who has racked up a whopping 14 outstanding warrants, but has yet to pay any of them.
They don't want to arrest these people, LeSueur says, they'd rather people pay their fines voluntarily.
"We're trying to get these people to come in and pay their fines. We don't necessarily want to arrest them. Our goal is voluntary compliance," LeSueur said.
But LeSueur says if these people don't pay, Odessa Police will track them down.
"If they don't we will seek them until they've paid their warrant or been arrested," LeSueur said.
LeSueur wants the public to know that these are, for the most part, non violent people, and shouldn't be a cause for concern among Odessa residents.
LeSueur added that you can leave tips at OdessaCrimeStoppers.org with information regarding any of these people, and you could receive a cash reward.
