Midland High 2013 Football Season Preview

The Midland High Bulldogs are installing a new defense in 2013, one that will try and shut down the popular spread offenses throughout District 2-5A.

The Midland Bulldogs plan on bringing a quick, uptempo attack in 2013 as they install a new defense, the 4-2-5.

"We're probably going to be a little bit more aggressive. Maybe a little bit more stunting, maybe a little bit more man, we've been kind of a zone team the past few years. We're going to go a little bit more man and try to free up those guys inside."

A big key for the Bulldogs new defense to be successful will be the play of Xavier Martinez. Martinez was a running back who was turned into a free safety, and he's ready to take the bite out of opposing offenses.

"I just have to be the attacker instead of the receiver. Now I have to be the one attacking the offense. I have to attack the football along with my guys on defense. I just need to be the leader on the defense."

Over to the offensive side of the ball, the Bulldogs have enough returning experience to plow through District 2-5A. The district leading wide receiver from a year ago Deandre Goodley, as well as senior running back Lance White both return in the purple and gold.

"We have a lot of returners that played a lot last year. Sam Grimes, the quarterback he played quite a bit last year, a lot of offensive line as well as some wide receivers. I think we're going to be pretty good."

Midland High was 5-5 a year ago, and in order for them to eclipse last season and make a run for the post season, it starts by living their team motto, earn the right.

"Team motto earn the right. You know earn respect from our district. Last year we came off of a 5-5 season This year we want to do a lot better, maybe even earn district and go on to the playoffs."
