Local Non-Profit Group To Air National TV Show

MIDLAND -- A local organization is making it big time with a television show that will air nationally this weekend and right here in West Texas.

Nine years ago, Show of Support Military Hunt started honoring wounded soldiers through Texas-style hunting trips.

"We give these guys all the gear they need, from the rifle to the clothes, the boots. Everything they can use," said Terry Johnson, president and founder of the organization.

Over the years, the Midland-based non-profit documented all expense-paid hunting trips in Texas with wounded soldiers.

This weekend, a TV show sharing the stories of those soldiers and their hunts is kicking off it's first nationally aired season.

"These are some brave, truly modern-day American heroes," Johnson said. "I got to sit in a deer blind with them a listen to some of their stories."

The soldiers tell their stories of time in combat while enjoying a getaway hunting excursion in the Texas country-side around San Angelo and the Big Bend region.

Hunting TV shows have already followed the group and Johnson received tons of emails wanting to see more.

"The purpose of the show is to let people see more of what we're doing," Johnson said. "Let them see more of these guys, let these guys tell their story. Every man has a different story."

Johnson said he doesn't want people to forget what these wounded soldiers have done for their country.

"Just because the war is winding down, doesn't mean these injuries go away," he said. "These men are gonna remain injured for the rest of their lives. So, I hope people won't forget."

The military hunt show will air KMID at 5 a.m. on Saturdays. It will air on the Pursuit Channel (channel 240 for Dish Satellite and channel 608 for Direct TV) on Sundays at 4:30 p.m, Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m., and Thursdays at 9 a.m.
