Hounds Well Represented in TL All-star Game; Ready for 2nd Half of Season

The RockHounds will be well represented at the Texas League All-star game, and Manager Aaron Nieckula knows what it will take for his team to compete in the 2nd half of the season.
The RockHounds were out of contention for a first half title in the Texas League South division, but have been playing well to start the second half of 2013.

Midland is currently on a two day break as the TL All-Star game will be held tonight from Northwest Arkansas.

The Hounds will be well represented, as five players were chosen to represent Midland in the All-star festivities. Infielders Dusty Coleman and Anthony Aliotti, outfielders Jake Goebbert and D'Arby Myers, and pitcher Murphy Smith were all selected to the TL South All-star roster.

Manager Aaron Nieckula knows his team struggled in the first half of the season and certain things just didn't go there way, but he is confident that his team will bounce back and contend for a second half title.

Nieckula said
"I thought we went out and played the game extremely hard. We didn't get a few breaks along the way, but you know moving forward we just have to continue to pitch. Pitch well, obviously pitching is the most important part of the game. So we're looking for quality starts out of our pitching staff. Hopefully our bullpen keeps us in some ballgames, we have some great arms coming out of the bullpen. Defensively, we just want to take care of the routine plays and be fundamental and try to take care of the baseball behind the pitchers. Offensively, just looking to manufacture runs by pushing runs across the board and doing the little things. For base running, we want to stay aggressive, put pressure on the defense and try to score runs with our legs."
