MIDLAND -- The mood was somber at the Midland County Republican Women's 9/11 Memorial meeting this morning.
Heidi Cruz was the featured speaker today.
You may know her as the wife of Senator Ted Cruz, but she already had an impressive resume of her own.
She was working in the Bush White House 12 years ago on 9/11, and she shared her experiences about what happened when the Twin Towers were hit.
She expressed that her message today was one of reflection and gratitude.
"It's really just a thank you, to all the men and women that were first responders, that were in the medical community, our pastors that have helped this nation heal. And my entire reason for this visit is to join hands with Midland County in remembrance of that day."
She shared that the attack hit home for her, with friends that were on flight 171, and at ground zero when the attack happened, and that she hopes that "our children remember that freedom cannot be taken for granted."
