Charges have been upgraded to murder in the death of a Big Spring teenager.
Charges have been upgraded to murder in the death of a Big Spring teenager.

19-year-old Dakota Anguiano is accused of shooting his girlfriend in the head last Thursday.
Abigail Valencia died from her injuries Saturday. Monday, would have been her 18th birthday.
Her family is focusing on the good times.

"This has brought us a lot closer," big brother Adam Valencia said.
The Valencia family is leaning on each other in the midst of tragedy.

Vanessa Valencia, Abigail's sister, said, "It's been hard the last few days but today, out of everything, it's been a great day. The sun is shining. And God has blessed us with some pretty big blessings."

The community has been donating to help them cover funeral costs.

The sisters spent the day in the kitchen making taco plates to sell to the community. And they are overwhelmed with the response.

"Every donation, material or financially, thank y'all from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you. Y'all have made this a lot easier on us," said Adam Valencia.

Abigail's siblings will now help take care of her daughter, 2-year-old Sophia.

"She is just like her momma," Adriana Harrison, Abigail's sister, said.

Little Sophia is also helping her aunts and uncles heal.

"She told me and my other sisters that, 'Momma told me to tell y'all Momma is ok,'" Harrison shared. "You know, it touched us. It really did."

If you would like to help you can make donations in Abigail Valencia's name to the Myers and Smith Funeral Home in Big Spring. Their number is 432-267-8288.
