MIDLAND -- The City of Midland is asking for your help to curb false 9-1-1 calls.
The city says it had more than 2,000 cases of accidental 9-1-1 calls in August alone with most being the result of "pocket" or accidental dialing.
Officials ask that if you do accidentally call 9-1-1 do not hang up, but stay on the line to confirm with the dispatcher that there is not an emergency.
They say this will save emergency dispatchers time since they are required to follow up on every call.
The city also reminds people that even a cell phone with no service can still dial 9-1-1, so if you give your old phone to your kids to play with please take the battery out first.
