Ector County ISD Substitute Teacher Raise Generates Interest In New Candidates

Long term substitute teachers in Ector County will now be making about $100 more than their short term counterparts.
ECTOR COUNTY -- Long term substitute teachers in Ector County  will now be making about $100 more than their short term counterparts.

Long term subs with teacher certifications will be making $225 per day.

The Ector County School District defines long term subs as those that stay at the same school in the same classroom for 10 days or more.

Director of Communications of the Ector County ISD, Mike Adkins says they're encouraged by the response they've had.

"The interest is there.  How many people will follow through, sign up, fill out the packet of information that we need, go through the substitute training, and then come back in and actually sub in a classroom for at least 10 days or longer, i don't know.  But right off the bat, at least the interest was good.  It sparked a lot of questions, so we're encouraged by that."

They day they made the announcement, the school district received over 30 calls from interested substitute teachers.
