"Despierta tu voz" Rally in Midland Encourages Voting

"Despierta tu voz" or "Wake Up Your Voice" rally taking place in Midland for a second year.
MIDLAND -- "Despierta tu voz" or "Wake Up Your Voice" rally taking place in Midland for a second year. The rally is meant to encourage people to get out and vote. In the last Presidential election organizers with Despierta tu voz say less than half of all eligible Hispanic voters actually voted. The rally is scheduled for Saturday September 14, 2013 at 5PM and Midland Centennial Plaza. Along with food and entertainment, local and state leaders will be there to stress the importance of voting. The event is FREE.

Before the "Despierta tu voz" event the Midland Hispanic Cultural Center will host a Deiz Y Seis de Septiembre Parade!

Deiz Y Seis is Mexico's Independance from Spain which is celebrated in many cities in the United States.


All Parade Entries Must Check In from 8:00: - 9:00 AM
Check-in at Bradford Park at the corner of New York and Jefferson streets.

All parade entrants will assemble in the designated areas at Bradford Park at 905 E. New York Ave. Check-in Registration table will be at the corner of New York and Jefferson streets. The Parade will travel East on E. New York Ave to Lamesa Rd. turn right on South Lamesa Rd., continue to Florida Ave. and turn West on Florida Ave. continue to Main street turn left on S. Main street. Parade will conclude at Robert Halff Park.

RULES: All entries (floats, trucks, automobiles, bicycles) must be decorated. Plaques will be awarded to Best Overall, Most Original, and Best Presentation. For safety concerns, all items such as candies or gifts for the public, cannot be thrown from any vehicles and can only be distributed at the curbs.
