UPDATE: Pedestrian Hit & Killed by Train; Victim's Name Released

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a Train Tuesday.
UPDATE from Odessa Police:
"The decedent has been identified as John Elwin Brewer, 48 years of age. Next of kin has been notified."


ODESSA (Big 2 News) -- A pedestrian was hit and killed by a Train Tuesday.

The deadly crash happened along the railroad tracks near 2nd Street and Dixie.

DATE: April 29, 2014
TYPE OF INCIDENT: Train-Pedestrian Crash
DATE/TIME REPORTED: April 29, 2014 at approximately 1614 hours
LOCATION: Railroad Tracks (Just West of Dixie)

SUMMARY:

On the above date and time, the Odessa Police Department and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to the area of 2nd and Dixie in reference to a train-pedestrian crash. Investigation revealed that a Union Pacific train hit a male subject.

Officers notified the Crimes Against Persons, Robbery/Homicide Unit, who responded to the scene. The Ector County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and pronounced the male subject deceased. The decedent will be sent to Tarrant County for an autopsy.

The name of the decedent will not be released until next of kin is notified.

The investigation is ongoing.
