UPDATE: Accused Murder Arrested

UPDATE: OPD tells us Daniel Smith has been arrested --
The U.S. Marshalls located and arrested Daniel Michael Smith, date of birth 12/21/1986, in Phoenix, Arizona. Smith is in the process of being extradited back to Odessa. Smith was originally charged with Murder “1st Degree Felony”, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon “2nd Degree Felony” and False Identification “Class B Misdemeanor”.

ADDITIONAL CHARGE:

On April 24th, 2014, officers responded to the 1600 block of North Hancock in reference to an assault victim. The victim was identified as Amberlyn Brooks, 19 years of age. Brooks was transported to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injury.

The Crimes Against Persons, Robbery/Homicide Unit was notified and responded to the scene. A follow-up investigation has revealed that Daniel Smith, date of birth 12/21/1986, was responsible for assaulting Brooks.

As a result of the follow-up investigation, Smith has been additionally charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Family Violence) “2nd Degree Felony. The Odessa Police Department appreciated the public’s assistance in locating Smith.



UPDATE: OPD has named a suspect in the deadly stabbing --


A suspect has been identified in connection to multiple stabbings that occurred in the 400 block of East 15th Street. Investigators have obtained three arrest warrants for Daniel Michael Smith, date of birth 12/21/1986. The warrants are for Murder “1st Degree Felony”, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon “2nd Degree Felony” and False Identification “Class B Misdemeanor”.

At this time, investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in searching for Daniel Smith. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to call Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS or the Odessa Police Department at 432-333-3641. The investigation is ongoing.



ODESSA -- The Odessa Police Department and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to the 1400 block of North Hancock in reference to a disturbance on Monday night. The investigation revealed that two males had been stabbed by unknown actors in the 1400 block of North Hancock.

The first victim was identified as William Smiley, 21 years of age. Smiley was transported to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injury.

The second victim was identified as Clinton Howard, 34 years of age. Howard drove from the scene in a vehicle and was involved in a single vehicle crash at 10th and Grant.

Howard was then transported to Medical Center Hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival by medical officials. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

At this time there are no suspects and no arrests have been made in connection to both stabbings. Anyone with information in reference to this incident is asked to call the Odessa Police Department or Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS.

The investigation is ongoing.
