Big Spring, TX (Local Big 2 News) - The celebration of our nation's independence continued after the Fourth of July.

"I think it's one of the greatest things there is. It's to help people who helped them. And I'm very proud to be a part of it," said Billy Barnhill, a Korean War veteran.

The Texas Permian Basin Honor Flight Association held a fundraiser at the Western Sportsman Club Target Shoot in Big Spring Saturday.

Event organizers say it's a chance to give back to our veterans and send them to Washington D.C. to visit the war memorials.

"I can't think of any better way to spend it, out here you know, with my friends and other people out here in the community that are coming out to support this great cause," said Darrell Butt, a board member for Western Sportsman Club.

Barnhill comes from a family of military background, his brothers served in World War II.

"I'm glad they can take them back 'cause not many of them are around. All three of my brothers are gone," Barnhill said.

"The comradery and the friendship and the fellowship that we have out here on our range and share it with the community," Butt said.

Organizers say a lot of the members of the Western Sportsman Club are veterans and are happy to be able to thank war veterans for the work they've done.

"It's a great thing to honor people, especially WWII," Barnhill said.
