Tech Prepares For Northwestern State

The Red Raiders are ready to put last season's finish behind them.
LUBBOCK -- The long off season is almost over for Texas Tech. The Red Raiders open Saturday against Northwestern State at Jones Stadium.

The team looks to do something it hasn't done in more than ten months, and that is win a football game. Tech lost its last five games of the season after beating Oklahoma on October 22 of last year.

"I'm excited that it's finally here," quarterback Seth Doege said. "I wish we could fast forward it to Saturday. We've put in so much time and hard work. It's exciting to finally get a chance to prove we're not that team anymore."

"There's no where to go but up," safety DJ Johnson added. "So as a defense we're ready to show that we're capable of doing."

Head coach Tommy Tuberville sees last year's disappointing season as a learning opportunity for his team.

"Thing we really want to do is make sure we learn from last year's experiences, and I think we will," said Tuberville.

Tuberville is 2-0 in season openers with the Red Raiders, and Texas Tech hasn't lost an opener at home since 1992.
