Stanton, TX (Big 2 News) - "We do have competition," said Elodia Bravo, director of Martin county Historical Museum.

A friendly competition for the best chili soup in Stanton.

"We have the tortilla soup and it's our 25th annual cook off and we try to participate every year," said Bravo.

For this weekend's celebration 21 tables were set up, all with different soup recipes.

"Obviously I'm here to sample all of these delicious, mostly home-made soups," said Reggie Baker, president of the Board of Directors of Martin County.

But all the eating is for a good cause.

"It's a fund raiser for the caramelite convenient here in Stanton it's a great historical feature for our city," said Scott Jordan.

The building, which was built in the 1880's has already been renovated on the outside but, now residents want to continue.

"Now we are raising funds to do something about the inside and to preserve the heritage it represents," Jordan said.

The entire community pitched in and tables with unique soup recipes were set up by individuals, businesses, and churches

"You can make any recipe that you like. A family recipe, make one up, we put together a recipe book of all the recipes submitted," Jordan said.

But some already had a preference.

"I think my mom's is the best," said Katelin Inge.

Everyone got a chance to taste and vote for their favorite soup.

And in the end, some ended up pretty full.

"I don't taste all of it. I just taste half of it," Inge said.
