RockHounds Ready For Fresh Start In 2014

New faces will put on RockHounds uniforms this season, and it should be an electrifying atmosphere to start the 2014 campaign in Midland.
The Midland RockHounds struggled to put runs on the board in 2013, which led to missing out on the post season. But things will be different in 2014, with a new group of guys, and new athleticism, the RockHounds will be extremely entertaining to start off the 2014 campaign.

Addison Russel, the Athletics #1 prospect, will be the Hounds starting short stop in 2014. He's also the #12 prospect in all of baseball. Russell spent the very end of 2013 in Triple-A Sacramento, but today when we spoke to him he said he thinks he is in the right spot in Midland.

"This is a good level for me I think. I think I have what it takes to have a good year here at Midland and I'm just excited and want to have some fun. I think it drives me a little bit more but at the same time I'm not trying to live up to that expectation. I just want to go out there and have fun and play my game. Just stay loose and have some fun" said Russell.

On the mound for the Hounds on opening night will be Drew Granier. He came up to Double-A midway through last season and had mixed results. Granier said he worked on his change-up a lot this off season to keep the Texas League batters off balance.

"You get through spring training and everyone is anxious to see where they're going. I found out a few days before we rolled out here that I was going to be the opening night starter. I kind of got the feel for everything last year so I'm a little excited. I know what to expect and what I have to do so hopefully everybody enjoys it" said Granier.

Another key piece for the Hounds this season will be outfielder D'Arby Myers. Last season he went on a 33-game hitting streak, which set a franchise record, and was the longest in all of professional baseball.

"Well we're a little bit more athletic than last year. You know I feel like I got a little bit stronger, a little more athletic, and a little bit faster. It's going to be fun with those new additions, bringing in high quality prospects. It always helps out and we're just excited to start the year and you know go out there and win a lot of games" said Myers.
