RockHounds Granier Providing Depth to Midland Starting Pitching

Drew Granier provides a big boost to the Midland RockHound starting pitching staff.
He's fresh when it comes to playing Double-A baseball, but his numbers will tell you he's very comfortable pitching no matter what mound he is on.

Drew Granier has been solid for the RockHounds in the second half of the 2013 Texas League season, and Manager Aaron Nieckula isn't surprised after having Granier on his squad last season in Burlington of the Midwest league.

"He earned himself a promotion to Double-A this year. Ever since he's been here he has been outstanding. Quality starts, he's done a great job of giving us a chance in each and every ballgame to win. He's really done a good job of commanding the zone. He's had a few games here and there where he's walked a few guys. But from what I've seen where he's at now to where he was at last year he's made some drastic improvements in his game, he's more of a pitcher than just a thrower" said Nieckula.

Granier makes sure to keep things simple, by pounding the strike zone and trying to execute each and every one of his pitches.

Granier said on his adjustment to the Texas League "The biggest thing I've seen is a lot of hitters here don't really chase that much. They have a good awareness of the zone. They don't really
swing at much out of the zone, they really have a good approach. They only swing at pitches they like to swing at. I have a better defense here so I kinda let them put balls in play and see what happens."
