ABOUT REEL THANX:

Reel Thanx is dedicated to the men and women of our armed forces. It began as a desire to show our support and thanks to these brave young men and women.

In October 2007, through generous donations from our West Texas businesses and the community, Reel Thanx founder, Mike Mundy, along with friends and donors took five heroes on an all expense paid fishing trip to Lake Amistad for the weekend.

Located between the Mexico and the Texas border, Lake Amistad is in Del Rio, Tex., is the perfect place for a fishing outting. With over 1,000 miles of shoreline, it boasts spectacular views and top-notch fishing, and has been voted the top bass fishing lake in the U.S. At the end of that trip, Reel Thanx was born.

These Reel Thanx trips have become quarterly events, with small groups of soldiers (6-7 per group) being brought in for three-day weekend trips. The groups are flown in from various military bases across the U.S. from different branches of the military. The soldiers are housed in the homes of members of Reel Thanx during the full course of the weekend to keep these trips on a more personal level. Thanks to the generous donations of individuals and companies both within and outside of our community, these trips are completely free of cost to the soldiers.

Because Reel Thanx is a non-profit organization, ninety-five percent of all financial support received goes to the direct benefit of the soldiers. The board of directors and advisers to Reel Thanx are all volunteers with the great desire to giving back to these brave Americans. Reel Thanx operates with the help of only one part-time employee who handles most of their administrative duties.
