Parents Arrested After Police Find Feces, Mold and Live Wires Exposed in Home

Two children were taken in CPS custody as a man and woman face felony charges of endangering a child in Odessa.

ODESSA, TX (Local Big 2 News) - Police arrest a mom and dad after finding animal feces, mold and live wires exposed throughout their home with children present, according to officials.

Bailey Schmidt, 21, and William Spires, 24, parents of a 23-month-old boy and a 4-month-old girl, face felony charges for endangering a child, according to Odessa police. Schmidt faces one count and Spires faces two.

Officers found their front and back yards in the 3300 block of North Jackson to be "completely trashed with broken glass, boards with nails sticking in the upward position, and dog feces all throughout", according to a officials.

As officers continued to investigate inside the home they could "smell a strong odor of animal urine and observed live exposed electrical wires" a release states. Cops could also see dog and cat feces all over the floor, dead flies on dirty dishes and mold in a crib as well as on the refrigerator.

Police arrested the parents of the two infants on Sunday. Both were booked into the Ector county jail.

The two children were taken into CPS custody.
