One Person Caught; Several Suspects Still on the Run

One man caught after multiple law enforcement agencies respond to a vehicle speed chase.
HOWARD COUNTY -- One man caught after multiple law enforcement agencies respond to a vehicle speed chase. On Tuesday February 11, 2014 at approximately 6:15pm Deputies with the Howard County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the South Service Road of I-20 and Stallings Road in reference to a disturbance between two vehicles. Deputies located one of the vehicles and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle refused to stop and Deputies pursued the vehicle. After an approximate 15 mile chase the vehicle crashed on Hamby Road near Hwy 461 in Glasscock County.

Four subjects exited the vehicle and ran on food into thick pasture land. Howard County Deputies, Glasscock County Deputies, members of the Big Spring Police Department and members of DPS began searching the area for Suspects. A short time later a DPS Helicopter and Tracking Dogs from the Colorado City, Lamesa and Plainview Texas Department of Criminal Justice Prison Units, arrived and assisted with the search for suspects.

At approximately 10:52pm one of the suspects was located. The suspect was Identified as Rigoberto Vasquez 18 years of age. He was taken into custody and charged with Evading Arrest or Detention in a Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Upon searching the vehicle the subjects were in, two firearms and a quantity of a Controlled Substance was located in the vehicle. The vehicle, drugs and weapons were seized as evidence in the investigation.

Currently the Howard County Sheriff’s Office is working to Identify the remaining 3 suspects.
