ODESSA, TX (Big 2 News) -- Hay Elementary School was in a shelter-in-place for about 30 minutes on Wednesday after a man with a gun was reportedly seen about two blocks from the campus.

Ector County ISD officials say students and staff were not threatened in any way.

Here's the full media release from ECISD:

Hays Elementary School spent nearly 30 minutes in a shelter-in-place after the Odessa Police Department received a call about a man with a gun in the neighborhood about two blocks from the school. After the call to OPD, our ECISD officers went to Hays as a precaution. The students and staff were not threatened in any way, and the school was release from the shelter-in-place at 2:22 p.m.

As a reminder, “shelter-in-place” means any students who are outside are brought back into the building, and all the outside doors are locked and no one enters or leaves the building. School continues as normal inside the building during this time. A shelter-in-place is done as a precaution to protect our students and staff from a potentially dangerous situation outside of the school.
