Midland, TX (Local Big 2 News) - "I think that our name as a school district and our name as a community is becoming more well known across the State of Texas and across the United States," said Ed Zachary, executive director of human resources for the Midland Independent School District.

The booming economy in midland brings in more traffic, more students and more opportunity.

"I definitely came back at a good time," said Cristina Machuca, a sixth grade language arts teacher at Pease Magnet School.

It's attracting the attention of teachers across the country and around the world.

Even bringing Machuca back home. But she tells me it feels like a different city than she remembers.

"To go from you know, these small schools and see Midland grow and the opportunities to expand and meet different people from different cultures is incredible," Machuca said.

Machuca taught in Kuwait for the past seven years.

And she looks forward to seeing diversity in her classroom here in the tall city.

"Whereas before when I was growing up, everyone was from Midland or West Texas," Machuca said.

MISD Superintendent Dr. Ryder Warren says he sees the district staying like this for a long time adding he doesn't see any sign of a bust happening in the near future.

"I think we're just gonna have to get used to with what we're dealing with now in Midland. I think this is normal and this is gonna be normal for quite a while," Dr. Warren said.

And as the district grows, Machuca hopes to help expand the horizons of her students too.

"Have big dreams you know, you can come small cities and you can make it around the world," Machuca said.
