Odessa, TX (Local Big 2 News) - Over a thousand people showed up to the first Farmer's Market in Odessa held by Medical Center Health System Saturday.

The farmer's market was a family event with activities for both adults and children, including live cooking demonstrations.

Vendors sold a variety of products from jams, jellies, squash, fresh eggs and Pecos cantaloupes.

MCH officials tells Local Big 2 having a farmer's market in Odessa will have a huge positive impact on the community's overall health and wellness.

"We're one of the most unhealthiest cities in the state. And so, this is a way in which the community can come together with us to be proactive," said Patricia Garcia, director of volunteer services and community relations coordinator for MCH.

"The eggs went very quickly. Within the first half hour! We had a great turnout," said JoJo Lara with Buttercup Farms

The Odessa Texas Farmer's Market will be held from 9 to noon on the second Saturday of each month from now till October.

The market is located on the corner of 2nd and Golder in Odessa.
