ODESSA -- Lonnie Savage is behind bars, accused of threatening to kill his own family members, neighbors and burn down their homes on Saturday morning. While police say this type of arrest is out of the ordinary, neighbors says Savage's arrest wasn’t a surprise.
“Savage had previously threatened to kill his family members, threaten to burn the house down, as well as the surrounding neighbors’ houses down,” said Odessa Police Department, Public Information Officer, Steve LeSueur.
And police say he wasn’t joking.
“His intent was to inflict serious bodily harm or death,” said Steve LeSueur.
Kristen Seawright, a neighbor in the 2500 block of Cumberland road, has had her own run-ins with Savage.
“Lonnie started talking about shooting people, and my father took it very personal that he was out there threatening to shoot people and they ended up calling the cops,” said Odessan, Kristen Seawright.
Seawright tells us she has seen the SWAT team next door 5 times in the past year.
“Kinda become part of life around here, when the cops show up I try to stay inside or when Lonnie is outside I try to keep the kids inside.
“We have been here for about 30 years and that’s the first time I have heard about anything like that,” said Odessan, Jack Windham.
Some neighbors feel this was rare occurrence and they still feel safe in their neighborhood.
“No I don’t think it’s a common thing, I just think he lost his beans,” said Odessan, Calvin Copley.
Regardless of neighbors’ opinions, police say Savage was arrested without incident.
“The good about this entire situation was there were no injuries as a result,” said Steve LeSueur.
