Lions Club Celebrates Its Camp Kids

Thursday, the Odessa Downtown Lions Club celebrated the 13 kids it sent to the Texas Lions Camp this year.
ODESSA, TX (Local Big 2 News) -- More than a dozen kids are back home and beaming from their special summer camp experience.

Thursday, the Odessa Downtown Lions Club celebrated the 13 kids it sent to the Texas Lions Camp this year. And then, the kids got to share their experiences with the adults who made it possible.

The Texas Lions Camp is exclusively for children with physical or mental disabilities and teaches them the "can do" philosophy.

“We teach these kids that the can do and they can overcome anything in their life that challenges them," explained Kathy Rhodes, the President of the Odessa Downtown Lions Club. "And it's just thrilling to see these kids benefit from the camp.”

The Lions completely fund the children's the week-long camp experience in the Hill Country.

The Texas Lions Camp was chartered in 1949 to help children affected by polio.

Today, the Texas Lions Camp reports it serves more than 15,000 campers each summer.
