Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Lightning used the second of their two compliance buyouts on forward Ryan Malone, the team announced Wednesday.

Malone, 34, is now an unrestricted free agent. He had one year at $2.5 million remaining on a seven-year, $31.5 million contract he signed prior to the 2008-09 season.

The club will pay two-thirds of the remainder of his contract over twice the term of the deal.

Malone was a productive player early on with the Lightning, potting at least 20 goals in three of his first seasons, but he totaled only 11 goals over the last two seasons.

Selected by his hometown Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Malone has 179 goals and 191 assists in 641 career games.

The Lightning's other compliance buyout was used on Vincent Lecavalier following the 2012-13 season.
