Greenwood Residents Continue Call for Work on SCR 1040

Greenwood residents are tired of waiting on the county to see South County Road 1040 paved.

“I've been trying to get this road fixed for the 11 years I've been out here,” said resident Bruce McNeill.

He feels that because the population is so sparse, the commission is not paying attention to the community’s immediate needs.

But Commissioner Robin Donnelly says that is not the case.

“I agree with them,” Donnelly said.

County Road 1040 has been Donnelly’s priority since the county approved the County Road Program last year to pave the roads. But he says that the bad weather and the oil boom have delayed the work.

“Because of the cold and the winter we have not been able to top it to make a permanent finish on it,” Donnelly said.

And if it’s not the weather, it’s a staffing problem, he said.

“Three people quit and go to the oil field last week so I'm in that unavailable position of year I want this done but I don't have the people to do it,” Donnelly said.

But residents are tired of complaining.

“We just would like to have a decent road that won't shake our car to pieces and jar you like crazy when you're trying to drive it, we just like to have a smooth road,” said resident Dan Strickland.
