Food Bank Receives Donations From Local Sub Shop

Jersey Mike's donates 100% of it's sales today to the West Texas Food Bank.

Odessa, TX (Big 2 News) - "Today is our National Day of giving, it's nationwide. Every Jersey Mikes’ throughout the country is donating to a local charity", said Lalo Martinez, Vice President of Operations of Jersey Mike’s.

All together the company hopes to raise more than one million dollars to give to local charities.

In Odessa, every dime spent goes toward the West Texas Food Bank.

"100% of their sales go back to the west Texas food bank so if you go eat today, it will be helping us a lot", said Rosie Simmons, Volunteer Coordinator of the West Texas Food Bank.

People from all ages came in to support the West Texas Food Bank.

Simmons is no stranger to the sub shop.

"I have ate there before, and it's really great. My favorite is "Mike's Way", said Simmons.

However, Lalo Martinez had another favorite sub in mind.

"Our number one seller is the Big Kahuna Cheese Steak; it's the #56, its steak or chicken", said Martinez.

Whatever the sub you like, it's all about helping to feed others.

The West Texas Food Bank assists more than 80 local partner agencies and area food pantries.

"The 19 counties we service is like Andrews, La Mesa, Fort Stockton", said Simmons.

Rosie says the summer months    are lowest for donations.

Therefore, this event benefits the food bank tremendously.

Jersey Mike's is proud to be a part of feeding people in need.

"It’s a great feeling, at Jersey Mikes, we know that being a part of our community is essential our business", said Martinez.

If you are not able to make it to Jersey Mikes tonight,  you can still help to feed a family in need in other ways.

"If you would like to make a donation, we take credit cards over the phone, we take checks", said Simmons.

A dollar goes a long way. A dollar equal four meals.
