The Education Foundation of Odessa will hold its annual concert Wednesday, an event they are calling “Odessa’s biggest party.”

“What makes it really great is we are Odessa's biggest party but we do it for the right reason,” said Craig Van Amburgh, the Education Foundation Concert Co-Chair.

This is the organization’s 13th annual concert, and this year’s performer will be John Fogerty. The money raised through the concert will then go to benefit the Ector County Independent School District.

“What we do is we ask teachers in ECISD to submit proposal of special projects that they want to do that's outside the normal founding from the ECISD,” Van Amburgh said.

After teachers submit the proposal, the foundation choses the best ideas and awards them with grants to bring their ideas to life.

“We've raised well over a million dollars and given that back to teachers and educators and classrooms and impacted the lives of, you know, 800,000 kids,” Van Amburgh said.

This year, the organization granted 79 teachers proposals, totaling to more than $237,000.

“The teachers don't know who is going to be funded so and so when we walk into a classroom with a teacher that submitted a proposal that's been funded many times they break into tears, it's really really cool,” Van Amburgh said.
