Chevron Employees Give Back this Christmas

Chevron Employees Give Back this Christmas

Employees help over 100 people through Salvation Army's Angel Tree program
Midland -- The Basin is booming, but there are still a lot of families in need this holiday season. Luckily, the boom is proving to be very beneficial for local non-profits this Christmas.

The Salvation Army is just one organization that says they've received more help this year from oil and gas companies.  A lot of that help is going to their Angel Tree program, and thanks to companies like Chevron, over a thousand local children and adults will receive a surprise under their tree this Christmas.

"This year, we have over 1,200 children that are going to receive gifts, and we have another 400 senior citizens that will receive gifts from the Angel Tree program," said Captain Tex Ellis,  Midland Salvation Army corps officer.

"We know there's a strong need from the Salvation Army this time of year specifically, and our employees really enjoy giving back to the children," said Ashley Abbott, Chevron engineer.

Helping out 109 angels, Chevron was this year's largest Angel Tree contributor making the difficult job of giving to everyone in need this Christmas a little easier for the Salvation Army.

"When we have a group like Chevron adopt this many children, and they make it such a wonderful Christmas for those children, it really helps us do our job and do it well," added Ellis.

For those less fortunate this Christmas, making sure their little ones have something under the tree means the world.

"I appreciate the community and everything they're doing for all these kids that don't have anything," said Brandy Lopez, a mother of two angels receiving gifts through the program.

Although the Salvation Army says they're extremely thankful that all of their angels were adopted this year, they can always use a little more help. Bell ringers will be collecting monetary donations in red kettles up until December 24 and that money will be used to help Salvation Army all year long. You can also drop off a toy at their office.
