Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Charlotte Bobcats announced Sunday that they have placed guard Ben Gordon on waivers.

Gordon, a former NBA Sixth Man of the Year with the Chicago Bulls, had played sparingly for the Bobcats this season. The 10-year veteran saw action in only 19 games, averaging 5.2 points and shooting just 34.3 percent from the field.

Charlotte's recent trade with Milwaukee for guards Gary Neal and Luke Ridnour had made the 30-year-old expendable.

"With the recent acquisition of additional backcourt depth to our roster, we believe this is in the best interests of both parties," Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins said. "We want to thank Ben for his contributions over the past two seasons and wish him the best as he moves on in his career."

The Bobcats acquired Gordon from Detroit in exchange for forward Corey Maggette in June of 2012. He averaged 11.2 points, 1.9 assists and 1.7 rebounds in 75 games off the bench in his first season in Charlotte.

Gordon is in the final season of a five-year, $55 million contract he signed with the Pistons prior to the 2009-10 season.
