30 in 15: Big Spring Steers

Big Spring Football Head Coach Phillip Ritchley believes leadership is their strength this upcoming season.
Big Spring, TX (Local Big 2 Sports) - "We're excited, we got a tough district and tough non district schedule, so there's going to be some good football played in Big Spring", said Big Spring Football Head Coach, Phillip Ritchley.

The Steers went 9-4 last season and Coach Ritchley is confident that success will continue.

"I hope that this year's seniors took notes from that and that will be the key. I think you're only as good as your leadership", said Ritchley.

Former Steer Ryan Tannehill's little brother Tobyn, returns as quarterback for Big Spring.

"Offensively we got seven starters back so we feel really good about our offense", said Ritchley.

The team needs help defensively.

"We got a lot of work to do on our defense and that's where most of our focus is going to be during two a days", said Ritchley.

Coach Ritchley says one junior linebacker could be a leader on this team.

"Everyone’s pumped up. We went to 100% club, we got a ton of kids showing up every single day of summer working out. We’re ready to come out here and play", said Junior Middle Linebacker for Big Spring High, Garrett Wigington.

Wigington provides that extra spark the team needs on the defensive end.

"We need to get our here. We need to practice; we need to get better, work on fundamentals", said Wigington.

The team says they are taking things one day at a time, but are certain they will have a deep post season run.

"Were going all the way. We’re going to do our best to go as far as we can in playoffs. We’re not going to get to high, were not going to get too low", said Wigington.
