BIG SPRING -- The city of Big Spring's new tax rate is expected to rake in big bucks for the city.
According to the Big Spring Herald, Tuesday night, the city council voted to approve a tax rate of just over 85 cents for every hundred dollar valuation.
That's reportedly about one cent below the existing rate, but city officials say this doesn't automatically mean property owners will see a break in their tax bills especially for property assements that went up.
The new tax rate is expected to bring the city almost half a million dollars more in revenue this coming year.
City officials say this revenue will go toward giving a 6 percent pay raise to city employees and some of the money will go towards capital for a new landfill.
