It's the end of an era. Blockbuster, one-time king of the video rental business is closing its remaining 300 company-owned U.S. stores and shutting down its DVD mail operation in January.

Less than ten years ago, Blockbuster had nine-thousand stores. The company will continue as a streaming service available to customers of its parent company, Dish Network. A handful of independent Blockbuster franchise store owners will be allowed to stay in business.
