2012 Permian Basin International Oil Show Off to a Great Start

A look at day 1 of the Permian Basin Int'l Oil Show.
ODESSA -- Before the Permian Basin International Oil Show gates opened, a tribute was made to Charles R. Perry, an oil industry leader and this year's oil show honoree.

"It is my pleasure, as mayor of the City of Odessa, to proclaim October 16, 2012 as Charles R. Perry Day," said Odessa Mayor Larry Melton.

After Perry was named show honoree, the ribbon was cut and people from near and far filed in to see the latest and greatest in oil field technology.

"This is our cementer. We can batch mix cement for cement jobs, setting wells up, new drills, working on existing wells," said Terry Lewis, Taylor Industries.

From new rigs to the equipment that powers them, the technology seems endless. But with more than 700 exhibitors, it doesn't stop there.

Along with new technology, there are solutions here for all kinds of problems. One that we're familiar with here in the Permian Basin is a lack of housing.

"We are the nation's largest provider of remote workforce lodging. We're here because there's some remote areas here where they need some lodging thanks to the oil boom that's going on in the Permian Basin," said Tom Schneider, Target Logistics.

Although every company has something unique to show, why they are actually at the show seems to be a common theme.

"We get to talk to our customers. We get to show equipment," said Anthony Washington, Key Energy Services. "We get to show our brand not only from a technological standpoint, but from a real world standpoint, if you will."

And it's a good thing the oil show will be going on for three days, because to see everything in one just won't cut it.

Tomorrow we'll bring you more from inside the show and give you a look at some never-before-seen, state-of-the-art equipment. You can also check out our WEB EXTRAS on permianbasin360.com.
