NEW YORK -- One World Trade Center in New York City will be the tallest building in the United States when it's completed.

That bumps Chicago's Willis Tower, commonly known as the Sears Tower, to the number two spot. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat made the ruling. According to the organizations website, a building's official height may include spires, but not antennas. There is some controversy over whether the structure at the top of One World Trade Center is a spire or antenna. something eluded to by Chicago's Mayor, Rahm Emanual.

When One World Trade Center is completed early next year, it is expected to be the third tallest building in the world after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Makkah Royal Clock Tower in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
