ODESSA -- A theft at a church quickly escalated into an aggravated robbery when church members attempted to stop the thief.
Police say Nicholas Kempf and another man, Timothy Yanaga, took off with the purse from Sherwood Baptist Church.
That's when several church members chased after the suspects, and were able to recover it.
But according to police, the theft quickly became an aggravated robbery when Kampf pulled a knife on one of the church members.
Kempf is now charged with aggravated robbery, a first degree felony.
Yanaga is charged with misdemeanor theft.
