MIDLAND -- Big 2 spoke with one Midland woman whose grandson is serving in the Navy and has been sent to help with disaster relief in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan.

Melba Owens' grandson, Christopher, graduated from the Naval Academy in 2003. He's now a Catapult Officer.

Owens says she's not worried because she prays for him every day.
She also said, "Anybody he meets is gonna see a shine in his eyes that brings love to them and caring and that's our role."

Owens volunteers for Christmas for Our Troops, a local organization that takes donations for active duty military and sends them overseas.

She encourages people to contribute.
