MIDLAND -- The Midland Fire Department is mourning the loss of a leader.
Midland District Fire Chief James Gardner has passed away.
Gardner began his career with the Midland Fire Department in 1989 and was promoted to District Chief in 2005.
MFD says Chief Gardner was instrumental in training fire-fighters.
He served on the MFD Honor Guard and planned many fishing tournaments to benefit others and always being there for a brother in need.
The fire department bids farewell to a man they say was always there for them saying "Be Safe Brother."
