West Texans Buying Big Screens for the Big Game

The Super Bowl brings an increase in TV sales, especially in West Texas.

According to Midland Best Buy general manager, Jeremy Lunsford, the West Texas area is known for buying the 60 to 90 inch TVs.

“We definitely out here do a lot of large TVs. 60 up to 90 inch televisions,” Lunsford said.

Unlike other Best Buys stores in the county, the Midland location is constantly stocked with the 60 to 80 inch TVs.

“The last three weeks including this week get really, really busy for TV sales, large TVs,” Lunsford said.

Midland resident Cathy Martinez decided that the Super Bowl was the perfect time to buy a new TV.

“He has always wanted a big TV and he likes Super Bowl so I think it was a good time to buy him a TV,” Martinez said of buying the TV for her husband. “A big screen TV.”

The family got a 60 inch TV and plan to have family and friends over their house to watch the Super Bowl together.

“We have family over that’s what they do,” Martinez said. “They usually sit and start screaming and yelling and eating and drinking.”

The 60 to 90 inch TVs range between $1,000 and $10,000. Lunsford said the Midland store sold various TVs worth $10,000.

“Today and tomorrow will be a big day and then even Sunday afternoon before the game, early morning we get quite a few customers getting those last minute TVs for the big game.”
