Odessa, TX (Big 2 News) - A $500,000 grant was awarded to the mathematics department at UTPB this morning.
The grant is for a project called the West Texas Mathematics Consortium.
The project aims to give Ector County ISD and Midland ISD math and science teachers a chance to go to a two week summer workshop focusing on professional development.
The academic training is for improving instruction methods.
UTPB representatives tell us that this kind of training is essential for junior high school teachers.
Teachers who complete the 120 hours of professional development will get $2,000 in stipends as well as tools like calculators and iPads that can be used for teaching.
