ODESSA, TX (Local Big 2 News) -- Two Odessa parks get something new for local children -- the addition of playgrounds!

The city celebrated the new playground equipment with a groundbreaking Thursday morning.

New playgrounds will be installed at Central Park - at 13th Street and Milburn Avenue, and Optimist Park - at 38th Street and Grandview Avenue.

City officials say the playgrounds are funded completely by donations.

"It is the dollar donation from the utility bill that is making this possible, along with a grant from the Hemphill Foundation and the JC Furgeson Foundation,” Steve Patton, the Director of Odessa Parks and Recreation, explained. “This is a combined project of $243,000 that is not an impact on the tax payers' dollars."

City officials say the playground going up at Central Park can have 60 plus children playing on it at one time. The city opted to go with a larger playground at Central Park, as the Boys and Girls Club is next door.

Both new playgrounds are set to be complete in 90 days, which means they should be finished by the end of October.
