Odessa, TX (Big 2 News) - They say it takes a village to raise a child and Odessa College, ECISD and the Parent Teacher's Association are taking that saying to heart.
The college is partnering with ECISD, the PTA and students to get kids thinking about their futures as early as 8th grade.
This initiative will help middle school students develop a ten year plan to get from 8th grade to college graduation, and the joint effort will involve students, parents, teachers and administrators.
Odessa College officials believe this structure is important for 8th graders.
"It gets them thinking about education, it gets their parents involved in the discussions, it links the school system with the local college. And every year you revisit the plan with the students because students will change their ideas etc. But it begins to have a dialogue of education within the community." says Don Wood, Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness at Odessa College.
This meeting of the minds happened at the Odessa College campus Wednesday.
Superintendent Tom Crowe and the state PTA President were on hand to join in the discussion.
