The Medical Center Hospital’s stroke survivor support group got together this weekend to make care packages for the men and women serving our country overseas.

Every July the stroke survivors gather for a patriotic themed meeting, and this year everyone pitched in to make care packages for troops overseas.

Hospital nurse Kerry Morris says the support group is a great place for stroke survivors to come together and have fun.

But she wants you to take a few steps to prevent a stroke in the first place.

“you can prevent stroke by eating right, eating a healthy diet, exercising, seeing your doctor regularly, taking any medications, and keeping any other things under control like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol," she said.

Morris also reminds you strokes are an emergency, and if you see someone with their face drooping, arm weakness or speech difficulty, you need to call 911.
