Stolen Minivan Pursuit Ends in Wreck, Arrest

A man faces charges after police say he led police on a 25-minute chase in Big Spring.
BIG SPRING, TX (Local Big 2 News) - A man faces several charges after police say he led police on a 25-minute chase before crashing and being taken into custody.

Jesse Rodriguez Lopez, 46, is accused of evading police in a motor vehicle, evading arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and parole violation.

Officers responded on Monday to a stolen vehicle report on South Goliad. Police say a white 2000-model Pontiac Montana minivan was reported stolen sometime between Sunday and Monday after keys were left inside the vehicle.

Police on Tuesday noticed the reported stolen vehicle around 4:40 a.m., leaving city limits near IH-20. The driver refused to stop after police tried to pull the vehicle over. Police say the chase continued east toward Salem Road and went on for about 25 minutes before ending on the 700 block West 15th.

Police say Lopez had wrecked the vehicle but continued to try to get away before police pinned the vehicle into a tree, causing minor "cosmetic" damage to a police unit.

Lopez was arrested after a brief struggle. He was taken to scenic Mountain Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries and then released into police custody.
